One of my favorite value investors has added meaningfully to his BN position and opened a new stake in BAM. That's a good sign for me. He is known for running a concentrated portfolio.

So Monhish has slightly underperformed the market since beginnning to manage money for others according to those over on the COBF baord who have dug into his performance. As with others who seem to grab on to Berkshire for marketing, what's the attraction?

Dealraker

Can you point me in the direction of the COBF board. I am not sure what or where it is.

Thanks

I hear T&T have underperformed as well. Heck, even Warren has underperformed. The fact that Bruce Flatt has underperformed is all that matters here. Looking at his underperformance, and situating it in the context of the run on all things financial as well as the run on commercial real estate, I can see BN being decently priced if you assume the fear is overdone.

If I wasn't overweight BN and BAM, I'd be a buyer here.

The calculations of things like distributable earnings is bizarre.

have concluded that pabrai is a fanboy of warren's success and subsequent philanthropy, not any recognizable investing approach.

~100% turnover

Pabrai used Brookfield as he does many stocks, he used it for marketing. The guy is successful in the field he need to make money and that field is marketing himself.

Pabrai is an absolute failure as an investor. Like Whitney though and many others his ability to keep a cult and get his name out and about has sustained him for a long time.

It won't last...but new ones will take his place.

Over on the COBF board there is an elaborate discussion of Pabrai's public investment fund record over the last 20 years vs. the S & P. He underperformed by 400%.

Like many other names in the head of investors calling him out will not remotely begin to slow those who will tout both him and his stock "picks" even when those choices are crazy short lived and have a very bad outcome. But it is what it is and the fact that he was promoting himself through Brookfield for a very short while tells me more about it being less successful than he wanted. It says nothing about Brookfield when he buys or sells.

Just to give the record instead of generalities. Patrai 5% over about 20 years vs S & P 10%:
