The autism/vaccine theory has been thoroughly debunked by, you know, experts, yet the orange dildocombover, dismissing 'experts' continues to define stupid. Will wormsshitforbrains actually be confirmed by the elected leaders?

“If you go back 25 years ago,you had very little autism. Now you have it.”- PrezElectFucknutz

"Clair Patterson had to fight corporations to prove lead was an issue in gasoline and paint. They created a front group called Citizens for Fire Safety to try and prevent legislation in California to stop the use of flame retardants especially on children's clothing even though it has proven toxic and ineffective. DuPont tried to hide the issue with C8 aka non-stick. I just saw a group saying parents should feed their kids eggs and just not buy artificially coloured cereal. The artificial dye free cereal in almost every country.
Fragrance chemicals that have changed drastically and are primarily either cytotoxic, mutagenic, or carcinogenic are much more likely to contribute to the rise in autism than vaccines. Our use of them has drastically changed from just being in our perfumes/colognes to almost every product we use. In the 1950's our laundry detergent wasn't scented. Now not only is it scented, but it is micro-encapsulated in plastic. Also we used extracts, not essential oils or synthetic chemical recreations of chemicals in essential oils like limonene that changes into formaldehyde when exposed to the air. Yes, it can be natural but people typically aren't eating a bunch of oranges to save their peels to extract a few drops of essential oil. Our houses also weren't closed and painted with plastic paint that doesn't allow the escape of these chemicals.
Then there is plastic which is also known to have harmful chemicals especially the newer soft plastic because to make soft plastic you have to have specific chemicals which are almost always endocrine disruptors at best. We also never used to wear plastic whereas now almost all of our clothes are plastic. Then again plastic holds onto things much more than natural materials. It is why laundry detergent now is scented because in reality while plastic is more bacteria resistant because it is hydrophobic it tends to hold onto small amounts of bacteria, dust mites, and harmful chemicals. It is why they have found polyester pillows to hold eight times more dust mites than a down/feather pillow. But yes, let us blame the vaccines we have only once a year to every few years compared to products we surround ourselves with constantly. It isn't just one thing or one chemical.</t>

Etymology SNIP

autism (n.)

1912, from German Autismus, coined 1912 by Swiss psychiatrist Paul Bleuler from Greek autos "self" (see auto-) + -ismos suffix of action or of state (see -ism). The notion is of "morbid self-absorption."
also from 1912 SNIP
https://www.etymonline.com/word/autism

Scroll down a little and you will see a trend in usage chart that shows a minor rise in 1960 and a steep rise since ~1990. Now we have the autistic spectrum which includes a range of behavior that used to have different names and now are in that autism spectrum.

That's why we didn't hear much about it 25-35 years ago.

And the apparent "alarming" rise over the past decade is easy to explain. From https://www.statnews.com/2023/03/23/autism-epidemi...

The main reason we are finding more autism is simple: Clinicians are getting better at spotting what was always there.

RFK Jr. is a misinformed crackpot who's going to get lots of Americans killed if the Senate doesn't stop him. Will they? I can't wait to watch his confirmation hearing (along with those of all Trump's other thoroughly unqualified and dangerous bat-sh** crazy nominees).

As for Trump not honoring any of his pre-election "promises", BREAKING MAGA NEWS: he has no reason to since he won't be running for re-election. He simply no longer cares about anything while in office other than increasing his own wealth and the wealth of his and his broligarch buddies. And then, his despicable life's work will be complete.

That would be the top part of the rise. The bottom part of the rise was the expansion of the autism spectrum to include other behaviors, along with the continual refinement of diagnosis. So say for the last 15 years that's true, but the first 15 years was developing toward the autistic spectrum in 2005-6. That development was was necessary to have well developed diagnostic criteria - which caused your articles claim. We are probably over diagnosing now, but that will level out.

I once dated a very beautiful woman who was autistic and distant. Too distant for me. She had no women bffs.

In my defense - :)

SNIP There's no single reason for this increase [in autism diagnosis], but several changes are likely behind the shift...

...In 1994, the American Psychiatric Association released the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), which recognized autism as a spectrum disorder. In essence, it became possible for someone to display mild autistic traits or more profound autistic traits.

New diagnoses, including Asperger's syndrome and the catch-all Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified PDD-NOS, were added to the manual. Neither of these terms are used today.

Upon publication of the most recent version of the manual (DSM-5) in 2013, Asperger's and the other diagnoses were eliminated and folded into a single diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. This may mean that more people fit the criteria for an autism diagnosis, resulting in a rise in reported cases.

The several factors are covered here: https://www.verywellhealth.com/when-did-autism-sta...

I'm pretty sure TMF was the forum where a Doctor started cursing someone, got booted - and later died. He said he had Asperger's Syndrome and this explained the cursing. I was sorry he got booted as he was an interesting character. Now, he would be on the autistic spectrum and would have ASD - Autistic Spectrum Disorder. (Since Turet's is about cursing - maybe it was that - poor memory by me? :) )

The article gives a good brief recap of the history of the disorder. It is good that kids are diagnosed early as they can learn to live with the disorder and understand better the derision, bullying, and 'why they feel they don't fit in' that is happening to them. Many adults are now diagnosed and it is some relief to them it appears.

My 2 cents. :)
