One of my seemingly endless supply of sisters is a native Roman. She self identifies as a communist (which led to interesting dinner conversation when one of her dinner guests was an editor at the Vatican newspaper). I enjoyed the fireworks even as I struggled to process that this editor was a Jew.

Walking around town she points out the obvious but also some of the smaller architectural contributions of last centuries fascists. I imagine some day in the not too distant future (I hope) D.C.tour guides will offer the same sort of unbiased descriptors as they pass by sights like a gold adorned ballroom with it's sniper ports and drone launchers.
