WASHINGTON—Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a limited cease-fire against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during a phone call with President Trump on Tuesday, but remained resistant to a longer-lasting peace plan pushed by the U.S. president since his election.

The cease-fire is the first tangible concession from Russia won by Trump in his campaign for a peace deal, in which he has mainly pressured Kyiv for concessions. For the Kremlin, Trump has dangled the enticement of improved relations and an end to its international isolation.

“We agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all Energy and Infrastructure, with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump posted Tuesday to social media. “We will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done!”

The Kremlin said in a statement that Trump presented a proposal for Ukraine and Russia to cease strikes on energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days. “Vladimir Putin responded positively to this initiative and immediately gave the Russian military the corresponding command,” the statement said.

“The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace,” the statement said.

The White House statement also contained a key detail hinting at a realignment of the Middle East: a statement of support for Israel over Iran.

'The two leaders shared the view that Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel,' the readout said.

It hinted at the potential for a future shift in the world order in which Moscow becomes less forthright in its support of Tehran, which has been a longtime ally.

Interesting.

This is one of those things that depends on your news sources...
Fox/Dope "steps toward peace"
Others: Putin shows Trump "art of the No Deal".
Is the glass half full or half empty?

To which I would ask: Was there even a small lull or pause of any kind before? (The answer is no).

Is the glass half full or half empty?

If you’re a Ukrainian who has no running water because Putin keeps bombing your infrastructure…you’re getting a break after 3 years of that.

You’re only getting a break if you are a worker on duty in Ukraine’s oil & gas infrastructure.

Civilian targets are still being bombed.

Fortunately, the Felon does not speak for Ukraine. In fact, Ukraine hasn't been invited to any talks. So no one is speaking for them. Except Zelensky, but he is being patted on the head and told to "go out and play while we discuss this" (metaphorically).

If anyone is paying attention, which I am, several other countries are stepping-up their aid. The US stopping aid will hurt, but their European neighbors realize that capitulation to Putin is bad for everyone (including Ukraine), and Ukraine shows no signs of being willing to acquiesce. In short, the Felon is trying to surrender to Putin, but Ukraine is having none of it. You may (or may not) consider Ukraine unwise, but that is presently their position on capitulation. Whether anyone else likes it or not.

If you really want the killing of Ukrainian civilians to stop, you have to make Putin stop it. Right now, he's not motivated to stop it because he sees that he might get most of what he wants because of a feckless USA. (Though he is likely wrong since those nations closer to the action -i.e. Europe- are trying to provide more of what Ukraine is requesting. They are actually asking GERMANY(!!) to ramp-up their arms production, and Rhienmetall stock is skyrocketing. You know...Germany...the ones Europeans were afraid of because of them causing 2 world wars in less than 30 years.)
