The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart. She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”

Lost on you guys is the history and traditional decorum of the inaugural prayer service going back to 1933. Despite how fervently you believe in the bishops message, that venue is simply not the time or place to advocate for a either side of divisive political issue.
Let's turn it around. Lets say Harris won and at her inaugural prayer service, a catholic priest delivers a sermon rooted in the horrors of abortion. What would you have to say about that? I say neither one is appropriate. But you?

Fair point. I probably wouldn't consider it appropriate, but I also would consider it within the priest's right to do so and respect the priest's beliefs. And if the President subsequently ripped the priest in a tweet, I would consider the President to be acting hugely inappropriately, fomenting even more division and hatred, and wasting their time when they have much more important things to be attending to. Yes, even if that President was a Democrat.

Given that Jesus never said a word about abortion, I’d criticize him on that point.
Given also that Rev. Budde’s words were grounded solidly in the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the gospels, and given that Rev. Budde delivered her words respectfully, even gently, I’d say that her sermon represents the highest form of prophetic preaching. I only wish my preaching could measure up to hers.

By allowing a xian reverend to deliver a keynote speech at an inauguration, we are tacitly supporting the establishment of religion. Verboten. If a POTUS wants to do that at an after-party on his dime, fine.

Listen to or watch the sermon she preached. There’s no attempt on her part to violate the establishment clause. Just simple words making a simple point.
Separation of church and state does not ban religion from the public square. It bans the government from following the religious voice saying that its should be the only religious voice speaking.
My freedom to speak my religious conviction cannot be silenced any more than your nonreligious voice.. or other-religious voices.
It’s when the government chooses which religious voice can speak that problems arise.
Donald Trump is already showing that he’s gearing up to only listen to evangelical MAGA friendly voices. Apparently, Rev. Budde represents a voice that slipped through the censors with a different sort of message than the heretical nonsense that he usually surrounds himself with. I’m sure it won’t happen again.
Apparently he thought that the church that he cleared Layfayette Park so he could wak to the church and hold aloft a bible…. Would only have fawning laudatory words to speak about him.
Instead, he got the gospel.

It's only been murder since Roe was overturned. And 80-100 years ago the priests would advise young ladies to get abortions. Sooo - definitely Jesus or Moses did not think of abortion as murder, or they would have expressed that.

Absolutely. I wouldn't have it any other way.
But this was an official government function, and that was a government stage (so to speak). So there should have been no sermon (or other religious talk) of any religion by a religious official. Certainly, the POTUS (or any other speaker) can speak their minds. But a representative of a religion (which a reverend is) shouldn't be allowed.
Just as there should be no national xmas tree (unless you want also a minorah, a statue of Baphamet, and a bunch of other stuff). It may be considered a small thing, but it's still inappropriate. And getting a foot in the door.

OK. I have to retract some of what I said. Or at least modify. There should be no "inaugural prayer". But speaking within a church about the religion of that church is quite obviously OK. As long as it isn't part of the inauguration (a government function), it's fine. Whatever she said.**
