Well, he cheats at golf and he cheats on his wives and he cheats on his company books and he cheats on his taxes and he cheats on gerrymandering and he cheats on stock trading and cheats on admission testing and he cheats on the Constitution, so, I guess it’s no surprise that he cheats on soccer, too.
I’ll make a small prediction.
If Balogun doesn’t play, the U.S. will win. Good teams are noted for picking up the slack when a star can’t play.
If Balogun plays, they will lose. Belgium will step up. No one likes a cheat (except other cheaters).

Here's a little irony for you:
Folarin Balogun is only eligible to play for the US team through...you guessed it, birthright citizenship! He was born in New York to Nigerian parents who lived in London but were there for a few weeks visiting relatives.
Balogun’s mother was visiting relatives in New York while she was pregnant with him. When it came time for her to return to London, the airline refused to allow her on the plane, believing she was too far along in her pregnancy.
So Balogun was born in New York, spending the first few weeks of his life there before he and his family returned to London.https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/na...

Yes, I noticed that, too. There are several ironies in this case. Most experts agree that Balogun should not have gotten a red card. Rule 12 gives a penalty without intent, but the action still has to be careless, reckless, or using excessive force. All of those who saw the play note that this was normal game play that resulted in an injury and that Balogun was not reckless in this play or use excessive force in that situation. The problem now that trump has put his foot on the play, is that it becomes entirely political and therefore corrupt. As if the FIFA crowd weren't already corrupt enough!
So...irony #1 is that Balogun is a U.S. citizen through the very mechanism that trump says shouldn't exist and #2 that even though the red card should not have been issued, trump's intervention makes it smell.

I never had any doubt that Trump would somehow make this tournament about him.

You can say that again! (And again...and again...and again...and again...)

Most people didn't think the red card was legit. But bad calls are part of any game. Supposedly FIFA was reviewing the call even without the Felon interfering. Him saying anything violated the integrity of the game.
Belgium winning today made any interference moot.
