Where have all the Conservatives gone?

The fiscal conservatives have been in the Democratic party since the early 1980s. Some time around then, Republicans have, with some success, labeled Democrats as the "tax and spend" party. But Republicans are the "don't tax and still spend" party. And of course, Dems and Reps disagree quite a bit on what exactly should be in the "spend" part even though they both like to spend.

Looking at history - which has been re-hashed over and over, so I won't belabor it - both the economy and the federal budget have been better with Democrats in the White House over the last 40+ years.

It's long past time for national Democrats to start standing up against this fake fiscal conservatism and start painting themselves as the real fiscal conservatives.
