Two of the sectors that have underperformed in 2024 were healthcare and homebuilders. Both were expected to do much better based on articles that were floating around at the beginning of 2024. Neither sector got much love in 2024 and ended the year close to where they started. Both seem like good places to look for interesting stocks and are sectors that haven't benefited from the multiples expansion of the Technology or Communications sectors.

I am much more familiar with healthcare and have a better grasp on what happened in that sector. In the tail end of the year, a lot of risk and volatility were introduced by the election and the potential impact of a Robert Kennedy & Trump taking over HHS, FDA, and CMS. Not clear exactly what those impacts will be but certainly it introduces a lot of risk that will take time to assess. I am less clear about trends in homebuilding, outside of the fact that interest rates didn't end up dropping in 2024 as much as people expected.

I am starting to do some digging into these two sectors to find individual company opportunities. To see if I might crowdsource some specific ideas, I thought I would post here to see if there are specific companies that people find interesting as an investment today.

I don't think this specifically qualifies as a Falling Knife but I thought people on this board might have some interesting suggestions.

Not a homebuilder per se, but Carlisle (CSL) provides materials for residential and commercial construction. The company is very well run, has impressive ROE and ROA, and the stock is reasonably priced. I've owned CSL on and off (mostly on) for at least 25 years.
