Brookfield plans to start a pool that invests in financial infrastructure, such as payments systems, as demand for the asset class grows. "We're creating a strategy for financial infrastructure because we think that's the next phase of infrastructure investing is in the financial backbone of the global economy," CEO Bruce Flatt said in an interview on Bloomberg TV.

Interesting video thanks for posting. Some additional points, from a very quick search:

1: Ron Kalifa has joined Brookfield Asset Management as vice chair and head of financial infrastructure investments. Brookfield has invested or committed about $5 billion in financial infrastructure companies, and on June 9 [2023], Brookfield announced it would acquire Network International for about $2.76 billion (source: https://www.pionline.com/money-management/ron-kali...).

2. From Network International website:

Our two business segments are the Middle East and Africa:

Our largest segment by revenue is the Middle East, which includes the key markets of the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. We have recently entered Saudi Arabia, a market that offers significant opportunities for growth.
We provide services in more than 40 countries in Africa, including the major markets of Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa (source: https://www.network.ae/en/contents/view/who-we-are).

I don't have enough knowledge/experience in this area to post any kind of analytical insight, but hopefully some will find it useful.

Sam
