Since there is a special astronomy board, I'm posting here. Also could post it on the general science board.

If I had finished by PhD, and stayed in academia, I would probably have been all over this. Though my focus wasn't bursts, but just the higher-energy end of the spectrum. The instrument I was working with was ideal between about 1-4 TeV. My adviser had me working the 4+ TeV (we suspected...the whole point was to prove that those events were in that energy regime).
