The Biden Family thinks Chinese executives are friendly, nice guys, though.
That was Hunter, not "the Biden family". And it was a business deal. Not that I excuse Hunter for that, but business is about maximizing profits. Very few take moral/ethical stands. So it was not inconsistent. My own company wined-and-dined some Chinese executives about 15 (maybe 20) years ago. I wasn't privy to any of the details, but I can guess that we were trying to open up distribution in the PRC. I found it (and still find it) abhorrent, but the duty of a corporation as to maximize shareholder value any way they can. It's up to government to regulate them (which, at the time, was Bush Jr). Otherwise corporations behave as psychopathic entities (there have been numerous studies about that dating back to at least 2011). I'm not saying our CEO was a psychopath (as near as I can tell, he wasn't). But the single-minded duty of maximizing shareholder value to the exclusion of a "public good" or empathy for others or remorse for any damage that results is the definition of psychopathy.
Hunter was doing his duty to any shareholders/stakeholders. It was up to government to intervene if it was inappropriate, and they (apparently) didn't.
