In Personal Auto, we gained 1.9 points of market share in 2025, moving us up to 18.6% share, our second straight year of gaining more than 1.5 points, which no other top 20 company has done going back to at least 1996.

To put the last few years in perspective, it took us 84 years to get to 15.2 points of U.S. auto market share and only 2 years to add another 23% more on top of that. It's a remarkable achievement and testament to the value that our offerings bring to consumers seeking high-quality and affordable protection products.

In 2025, the private passenger auto market grew written premium about $11.8 billion. $8.9 billion of that was us. If you take just the top 10 carriers, that combined growth in 2025 was $10.4 billion. So we were 86% of that growth.

Growth is great to see, but profitable growth is our objective, and it's important to note that we gained that share while delivering Personal Auto combined ratios below 90 in 9 of the last 10 quarters.

I know Progressive is a formidable competitor, but didn’t realize just how formidable. Geico will have a tough time gaining profitable market share against Progressive. It will have to come against other weaker players.

An anecdotal report on Geico vs progressive. I switched from State Farm to progressive in 2021. At that time Geico was more expensive than State Farm. Progressive was 50% less than State Farm when I switched, and still is running 30% less than my 2021 State Farm Premium. Geico quote is about double Progressive today.

Jk

Maybe Berkshire should just make an offer for Progressive? $115 billion market cap currently. We could use their management.

Progressive is down a third from their high. It will take a huge premium over current price for them to accept an offer.

And why would they want to be acquired when they are doing so much better on their own?

I also doubt the regulators would allow a merger between two of the top three auto insurers.

Auto P/C is really fragmented though isn't it?

I think Progressive and Geico tie up would barely exceed 25% market share.

As far as regulators, all we need to do is donate to the ballroom and it's a done deal! Now's the time to try.

Progressive says it's at 18.6%, in a virtual tie for first place with State Farm. Geico is #3 at about 11.5% as far as I can tell, and Allstate is close behind at 10.2%. USAA (for military service members and vets) at 6%, Farmers at 3.5%, Liberty Mutual 3%, Travelers, AAA and American Family about 2%. It's fragmented after the big 4, but the big 4 have about 60% of the market.

Progressive is at 10x earnings right now, which is really strange. I don't think Berkshire can buy them but Berkshire shareholders can. I used to have a big position and I'm thinking about reestablishing it.

I noticed this past weekend 5/9 or 5/10? 0n CNN in Florida. That there were Progressive ads all day long. Maybe a dozen or more. Not old Progressive ads, but new ads. And they were very good.!!!

I wondered if I was targeted for the ads there were so many of them. I have never had Progressive or Geico.

It was very strange. All day long. One after another. And each one different from the last. And all were VERY good.
