A new security deal will see the US station troops and warships in Papua New Guinea (PNG), adding a pivotal force to take on China should tensions over Taiwan spiral into conflict.

The 15-year pact adds the country to a growing list of alliances in the region with the aim of hemming in Beijing's influence.

Last month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed the deal in Port Moresby - the capital of the nearly 180,000 square mile country in the South Pacific.

As I mentioned before, we have access to new bases in the Philippines, but where or whether the radar will be built is a question. We do Freedom of Navigation trips through the South China Sea, and recently we've had brushes. The Chinese have done surveys mapping out the ocean EAST of the Philippines, so they know where to hide their subs (they even named some of the areas). Taiwan's air space continues to be encroached. As 1pg mentioned, Japan has brushes. Indonesia doesn't like China and sank a couple of fishing ships. But the String of Pearls is still there. Chinese bases in Sri Lanka. Ports in the Straits of Malacca. Here's a map:
