Schumer would be right at home in China with their state controlled media.

Today... Here's Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on CNN explaining why he thinks Washington, D.C. can and should dictate to Fox News and Tucker Carlson what they can and cannot say: "We not only have a right to tell Rupert Murdoch and Fox what to do, but an obligation."

bighairymike: Today... Here's Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on CNN...

Perhaps that's making the rounds in the nuttersphere today in the wake of the firing of Tuckums but that quote is from March 2... and it's taken out of context. <surprise>

Schumer was telling John Berman that in light of the damage that Fox has done to democracy by lying every night that people have a right, an obligation to urge Fox to stop lying:

'Well, you know, it's hardly the first time that people have said Channel 4 should have done this, The New York Times should have done that. That's not unusual, but what has happened here is, John, very unusual. This is not simply telling them what to do. This is telling them, showing them that they have hurt our democracy probably the way no other actor, maybe with the exception of Donald Trump who used them, has done. And so, when it's that vital, I think we not only have a right to tell Rupert Murdoch and Fox what to do, but an obligation. And I hope people from one end of the country to the other will call up Fox and say, do what Leader Hakeem Jeffries and I asked for, which is stop the lies, say they were wrong and report the news. You may have a different way of reporting the news than someone else, fine. But lying is not part of that different way and cannot be.'

The discovery in the Dominion case revealed pretty much everyone at Fox is a lying liar who lies instead of reporting the news.

Surprise? No surprise.

Thanks for doing the 'footwork.'

Most folks don't bother fact checking his posts anymore, taking for granted that his posts will be either lacking context such that the post is misleading, or from wholly dishonest sources.

So, Komrad, you agree that the Ministry of Truth should control the news.

I know, it isn't news when it's a lie and who better than the government to decide what is a lie; e.g. the Russia Hoax, Hands Up, Don't Shoot, Hunters laptop is Russian disinformation, the jab will prevent you from getting covid, etc.

Okay. If what I provided upthread was insufficient, then here is what senator Schumer said of the letter he and Leader Jeffries wrote to Fox and what he was addressing in the Berman interview you quoted:

"Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News, acknowledged in a deposition that hosts of the network promoted the false narrative that Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Asked if he could have stepped in to prevent this, Mr. Murdoch acknowledged that he could have but chose not to ... This morning, Leader Jeffries and I wrote a letter to Mr. Murdoch demanding that he do what he should have done a long time ago: order Tucker Carlson and other hosts on Fox News to stop spreading lies about the election. They need to stop giving a platform to dangerous and entirely unfounded conspiracy theories that eat at the wellspring of our democracy."

Schumer was not complaining about other programming, but only about the network knowingly lying about the 2020 election results and continuing to knowingly promote debunked conspiracy theories about the election that, in private, they themselves laughed about and described as "really crazy stuff".

Fox knew it was lying on every program in its lineup and it knew it was not reporting the news.

Nor sure about the extent but even if I generally agree with your point, putting the government in charge of news is not a solution. Given time, people will learn the truth just as we did with the Russia Hoax which was reported a factual by many in the MSM who skew liberal. Censorship will lead to worse things than a Fox News or CNN spreading lies.
