One of this year's trending searches for Valentine's Day, according to Google's real-time trends, is a special-edition Squishmallow.

These plush toys, made by Kelly Toys, have become very popular among young people throughout the last few years. In fact, there's even a whole side of TikTok dedicated to Squishmallows: #SquishTok. Some of the videos about Squishmallow have tens of millions of views.

So How Can You Invest In Squishmallows?

Kelly Toys is not a public company so it's virtually impossible for retail investors to invest in the Squishmallow manufacturer directly. But, conglomerate Alleghany Capital owns Kelly Toys. Alleghany used to be a public company that traded under the ticker 'Y,' but last year Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett bought Alleghany for more than $11 billion.

Maybe companies like Kelly Toys may be too small for Berkshire to directly buy. But they may still end up owning them via subsidiaries bolt on acquisitions.

Actually Berkshire owns Jazwares (through the Alleghany purchase) which is one of the biggest and fastest growing toy companies and Jazwares bought a majority stake in Kelly Toys. So we're basically already there!

I have a friend that was trying to finalize some software work work with Jazwares last year and he was complaining they had gone completely silent on him for a couple months and he thought his deal had fallen apart. Shortly after that the Alleghany acquisition was announced and it all made sense. His deal did eventually close once the Berkshire acquisition was public but I told him not to waste his time trying to get any preferred vendor status with Berkshire :)

I like the Jazwares purchase. I've been lamenting the unavailability of posable action figures like the 6-inch GI Joes I used to play with as a kid. Looks like Jazwares has a line of 6-inch figures with 28 points of articulation based on Fornite characters. I'd love to see Warren or Charlie done up like this guy: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fortnite-Solo-Mode-Core... With an annual report accessory, and (of course) an extra large elephant gun! A few years ago, I'd have added a flip phone accessory, but that's not accurate anymore.
