...turns out the FAA knew all about them.
Why didn't Biden just say that?

After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons. Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones. In time it got worse due to curiosity. This was not the enemy. (inaudible) A statement from the President of the United States to start this briefing with some news and with that I will turn if over to questions.
From Karoline Leavitt today.

THIS is how the holocaust started - when they told the citizens what the drones were for.

Why didn't Biden just say that? They did:
Having closely examined the technical data and tips from concerned citizens, we assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as drones. We have not identified anything anomalous and do not assess the activity to date to present a national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the northeast.https://www.dhs.gov/archive/news/2024/12/16/dhs-fb...

"We assess" is pretty far away from "The FAA knew about it".

No, it's not. The current statement isn't saying anything different from what was announced back in December. Here's what the WH said today:
"After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons. Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones,"
Same thing - the drones included some that were authorized by the FAA for research and other reasons and many of them were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones (which don't all have to be registered).
It's the exact same information. It was bad and insufficient before, because it was Biden (and an official release from the Department of Homeland Security); but it's good and satisfactory now, because it is Trump (and just the press secretary repeating a conversation with the President, nothing more formal).

Here's the full statement that you linked:
There are more than one million drones lawfully registered with the FAA in the United States and there are thousands of commercial, hobbyist and law enforcement drones lawfully in the sky on any given day. With the technology landscape evolving, we expect that number to increase over time.
FBI has received tips of more than 5,000 reported drone sightings in the last few weeks with approximately 100 leads generated, and the federal government is supporting state and local officials in investigating these reports. Consistent with each of our unique missions and authorities, we are quickly working to prioritize and follow these leads. We have sent advanced detection technology to the region. And we have sent trained visual observers.
Having closely examined the technical data and tips from concerned citizens, we assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as drones. We have not identified anything anomalous and do not assess the activity to date to present a national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the northeast.
That said, we recognize the concern among many communities. We continue to support state and local authorities with advanced detection technology and support of law enforcement. We urge Congress to enact counter-UAS legislation when it reconvenes that would extend and expand existing counter-drone authorities to identify and mitigate any threat that may emerge.
Additionally, there have been a limited number of visual sightings of drones over military facilities in New Jersey and elsewhere, including within restricted air space. Such sightings near or over DoD installations are not new. DoD takes unauthorized access over its airspace seriously and coordinates closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities, as appropriate. Local commanders are actively engaged to ensure there are appropriate detection and mitigation measures in place.
The FAA is in charge of Civil Aviation, not the FBI. A statement about this should have been made by them, with a simple "Yeah, we know about this".

Also, I didn't know the Biden White House revoked 440(!) press passes. Interesting.

It was! This was a joint statement including the FAA - also with DHS, the FBI, and DoD. The Biden WH took it seriously, had all those agencies that might have investigative oversight over a question of unauthorized or illegal aircraft, and had all of them issue a formal joint statement to tell everyone that it was all right and that "they know about this." It was a mix of stuff that files a flight plan with the FAA and all the hobbyist and recreational users that don't have to do that.
But because it was Biden, it had to be bad and wrong. Instead, the President has a conversation with the Press Secretary, who then informally advises the press that it was a mix of stuff that files a flight plan with the FAA and all the hobbyist and recreational users that don't have to do that. But because it's Trump, it's good and proper - and necessitates a ding at Biden for, I guess, making the mistake of having all those agencies announce their findings in a formal statement instead of being Trump and just discussing it informally with the press office.

Because they refused to say anything about it for weeks.
This isn't hard. You don't have to defend everything they do.

This isn't hard. You don't have to defend everything they do.
And you don't have to criticize everything they did. If you ask, "Why didn't Biden do that?", that's a really unjustified question when Biden did do that.
They didn't say anything about it immediately because they actually investigated it! They took the time to look into whether there actually was anything unusual happening there, and made sure that they were right when they said there wasn't anything. People were running around with all kinds of weird claims - even people on this board were taking very seriously the claims that these drones were somehow deliberately turning off their lights when anyone looked at them.
Trump just repeated what Biden had all his agencies say a month and a half ago. This is nothing more than people who didn't trust the government when they said it back then believing it when Trump says it. Which is fine, but it's not correct to claim that the Biden Administration didn't say it back then.

Al, thank you for being a bit more blunt. Sometimes the truth is the truth and you just have to state it very plainly.

Actually, he did. And we did.

Here's some highlights:
The country has been on a huge nine year long, Trump inspired snipe hunt.
Apparently, some folks never get tired of it.
That one added a lot to the debate.
You people claim everyone else is a hopeless partisan, while acting like...hopeless partisans.

Ah, Dope, come on. If you didn't live in the right wing media bubble you wouldn't talk so much ill-informed nonsense.

If the US military isn’t raising an alarm, or, more accurately, is making the sound of crickets, you can be pretty sure they’re involved.
