Trump to Put Kennedy and Gabbard on His Transition Team
Mr. Kennedy and Ms. Gabbard, who had been progressive Democrats for many years, will join the former president’s sons and Senator JD Vance, his running mate, as honorary co-chairs.

More:
Donald J. Trump plans to name his former rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, a one-time Democrat, as honorary co-chairs of a presidential transition team that will help him select the policies and personnel of any second Trump administration, according to a campaign senior adviser.
Mr. Kennedy, who ended his independent campaign for president and endorsed Mr. Trump on Friday, described his transition role briefly in an interview that aired Monday.
“I’ve been asked to go on the transition team, you know, and to help pick the people who will be running the government,” Mr. Kennedy told Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host, in an interview posted on X.

Dope1: Interesting ... Donald J. Trump plans to name his former rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, a one-time Democrat, as honorary co-chairs of a presidential transition team that will help him select the policies and personnel of any second Trump administration...

Interesting, how?

Robert F Kennedy Jr. claimed that COVID-19 was genetically engineered to spare “Jews and Chinese people” and also that it was a CIA-hatched plot; he chain-sawed the head off of a beached whale in front of his six-year-old daughter; he confessed to committing adultery over 40 times (his wife later hanged herself); he ranted about journalists being recruited by the CIA to brainwash Americans (part of a CIA program he claims is called "Operation Mockingbird”), he argued that vaccines cause autism, and he claimed that 5G networks are being used for mass surveillance.

That's the guy you want selected personnel and formulating policy?

Seriously?

And Tulsi Gabbard?

As I wrote yesterday, republicans once slammed Gabbard as a socialist seeking to appease dictators like Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin but now they love dictators, applauding when Trump says he'd "let them do whatever the hell they want" to NATO allies.

Any level-headed person -- democrat or republican -- would be appalled at an administration asking those two dolts to help select policies and personnel.

But, hey, it's a cult, so, well, not so much.

It's a bit of a risky move on Trump's part to add Kennedy in this role.

No, not because of all of the "weird" baggage that RFK, Jr. brings along with him. It's just that he is super squishy (in conservative eyes) reproductive freedom, and even got a little upside-down being too in favor of abortion rights earlier in his campaign:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/rfk-jr-reverses-abort...

Normally this wouldn't matter. Trump will be endorsed by some people who are pro-choice. He might even name one or two people who are pro-choice to the transition team.

But RFK's thing is health. That's his issue set - vaccines and public health and all that stuff. It seems to be Shanahan's reason for being involved with his campaign as well. So when RFK is given a particular portfolio to handle in the transition team, it's probably going to be Health and Human Services/FDA appointments. That was almost certainly his ask in exchange for his support - to shape incoming health policy if Trump wins.

So naming him to the transition team and cutting a deal for his support and dropping out is going to send a....well, not a great signal to the right-to-life wing of the party. Now that Roe is gone, the playing field for abortion fights at the federal level has moved away from court appointments to administrative policy in HHS and the FDA. Using the Comstock Act, clamping down on regulatory approval for telemedicine service on abortion medication, keeping services out of federal health programs, etc. The right-to-life segment of the party wants their people filling those roles. Having a wild card like RFK, rather than a true believer, on health policy on the transition team makes that it more uncertain that they're going to get it.

Agree...but this seems like one of those things that might pass by and no one notices. Trump might be eyeing RFK for HHS head also.

I kind of doubt that. At least not for the real right-to-life wing of the party. This is their issue, and they pay a lot of attention to it. If this was the only thing, maybe it wouldn't land as hard. But between the Comstock Act refusal, Vance's statement about vetoing a national ban, and Trump's allusion to "reproductive freedom" in his tweeting....he's been softening the ground on this. Naming a pro-choice person the Secretary of HHS would be a huge blow to them.
