What it says: The agreement, adopted at COP28 this morning after weeks of contentious talks in Dubai, calls on countries to start “transitioning away from fossil fuels.”
It’s a first: In nearly 30 years of the U.N. summit, a deal has never before specifically called for curbing the use of fossil fuels — the biggest contributors to the planet’s warming.””

A realistic evaluation of COP28 is that they failed to address the crisis.

You may want to read (transcript) or hear (I suggest listening because Al is smart) how COP is dominated by petro states:

Also, CO2 emissions are going up:

"Overall emissions are up 1.1% compared to 2022 levels and 1.5% compared to pre-pandemic levels, continuing a 10-year plateau."

"It now looks inevitable we will overshoot the 1.5 C target of the Paris Agreement, and leaders meeting at COP28 will have to agree rapid cuts in fossil fuel emissions even to keep the 2 C target alive."
