In endorsing Harris, Luttig -- who will be casting his vote for a democratic candidate for the first time -- argues that partisan distinctions must, in this election, be set aside in order to prevent the “singularly unfit” Trump from returning to the White House.

“Because of the former president’s continued, knowingly false claims that he won the 2020 election, millions of Americans no longer have faith and confidence in our national elections, and many never will again,” Luttig writes. “Many Americans – especially young Americans, tragically – have even begun to question whether constitutional democracy is the best form of self-government for America.”

The stakes, Luttig argues, are as high now as in the late 18th century, when the country’s founders and authors of the US Constitution – including Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, typically political foes – joined together to voice concern over the potential emergence of an authoritarian demagogue.

“The time for America’s choosing has come,” Luttig writes. “It is time for all Americans to stand and affirm whether they believe in American Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law, and want for America the same – or whether they do not.”

It's as simple as that.

I was just about to post the same link. This is the quote that caught my eye:

Speaking to CNN, Luttig said his decision to publicly back Harris was a matter of knowing “right from wrong” – and acting in accordance.

Eloquent.

Amen.

Another quote from Judge Luttig, if I may. This one closer to the end of his letter, found here:

https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25050952-l...

In voting for Vice President Harris, I assume that her public policy views are vastly different from my own, but I am indifferent in this election as to her policy views on any issues other than America’s Democracy, the Constitution, and the Rule of Law, as I believe all Americans should be.

In the 2024 election for President of the United States, there are no more important issues for America.

This is exactly what I have been saying for quite a while. This election is not about trivial policy differences between liberals and conservatives. It is about the preservation of American democracy.

Heck, it's why I left the Republican party about 8 years ago. In the judge's paraphrased words, Trump is singularly unfit for the Presidency. That is as obvious now as it was almost 4 years ago on Jan 6, 2021, or 8 years ago when the Republican party nominated him as their candidate, or 12 years ago when he ran a trial balloon in the 2012 election, or more than 20 years ago when "The Simpsons" parodied him as the President.

beware innumeracy. high profile conservative breakaways get press coverage because they are rare.

registered GOP support trump in overwhelming numbers. MAGA is the GOP, and the GOP is MAGA.
if trump claims some blather as 'policy', then MAGA accept it as policy until the second he flipflops. so it can be said MAGA cares not for pre-election 'policy' other than it provides trump some disguise as a serious politician.

since 2016, polls have had a higher correlation to sentiment than actual AND significant (electoral) votes.
game not over.
