Quite correct. He's an open Shia Muslim. That's not the same as an Islamist (who believes that Islam and Sharia should rule government).
Also, AOC (I'm assuming that's who he was referring to) is not a communist. She's more of a democratic socialist, just like many of our European friends (Sweden, Denmark, etc). In fact, I think she's an actual member of the DSA. (I don't really pay attention to NYC, but I do read things from time to time.)
Other than drawing breath, what did they do that has the right riled up? (Probably nothing, I would guess, but I could be wrong.)
