A San Juan Capistrano Neo Nazi Marine has been convicted for "firebombing a California Planned Parenthood clinic and plotting other attacks to spark a "race war". He also plotted to attack Jewish people and an LGBT pride event taking place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles."

"He was called a “very intelligent young man but socially immature” and driven by deeply religious beliefs by his father Michael Brannon, who wrote a letter to the court asking for leniency, according to the Orange County Register. Brannon was described as an atheist in high school who converted to Catholicism as an adult."

Becoming a Catholic didn't do much for his life prospects.

Typical selective reading. He skipped the bit about "thou shalt not kill", and went straight for smiting and "I come with a sword".

How about "Love thy neighbor as thyself."

"Nearly 60% of U.S. Catholics believe abortion should be legal, according to a new poll.

That includes 39% of Catholics who believe abortion is a right in most cases and more than 20% who regard terminating a pregnancy to be an entitlement in every case.

According to the Pew Research Center, only 11% of Catholics in the U.S. feel all abortions should be against the law."

I bailed out on the Pope when I was barely a teen. My sister stuck it out at a Catholic girls school until her 2nd year of high school, IIRC. I can guarantee that she and her schoolmates were all on the pill.

She was like the big sister in the movie "Almost Famous" to me. Turned 18 and took off to see the world. Left her records behind for me, and a record player that held a stack of albums.... Steve Miller Band, Grateful Dead, Sandy Bull, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane. She didn't work for an airline, but she did cross the Pacific on The Mayan (David Crosby's schooner).

Yep. Abortion is a losing issue for conservatives. They managed to get a favorable SCOTUS, but over 60% of the public opposes bans on abortion.

And it's really a made-up issue anyway. The bible actually describes how to perform an abortion ("bitter waters"). It may not be efficacious, but it indicates that they didn't really have a taboo on it, either.

People search for what they want to hear. If you actually just read the thing, without skipping around, you'll see it's some combination of horrific, self-contradictory, inconsistent, and in opposition of known facts.

I still have my brother's albums. Since bought several of the CDs, since I don't use my turntable anymore (still have it, but the vinyl does wear out). My brother was 9 years older than me, so I'm half a generation off in my musical taste. While my peers were into Kiss, I was listening to Beatles and Doors and Jefferson Airplane and the Association.

I have some Association albums that you simply can't get. The Greatest Hits album (green cover) is the one you can still find. Have fun trying to find the one with a depiction of stonehenge on the cover (I have that one). Never made it to CD.
