The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Are Truckers Going on Strike October 1? What Diesel Prices Say

A claim that U.S. truckers are planning a nationwide strike on October 1 over soaring diesel prices has spread rapidly across social media, but there is little evidence so far of an organized nationwide is strike being planned.

As diesel fuel reaches a record high of $6.51 a gallon, videos and AI-generated posters have circulated claiming that frustrated truckers are going to take action and warning that a strike could disrupt freight deliveries and cause food shortages across the country.

We have seen similar demonstrations in other countries, over the years. I remember roads in France clogged with tractors, in a farmer's protest. Most of us probably remember when truckers blocked streets in Ottawa a few years ago.

If such a demonstration did materialize in the US, what would happen?

Trump is a "JC", so his first impulse would probably be to say "shut up and work".

Trump is also a con man, so he might say "elect a Congress of my bootlickers, and I will send you money, to offset the fuel price."

Or, he could take a page out of Saint Reagan's book, and order the army and national guard to haul freight.
