Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said this afternoon that Democrats would reject a government funding bill that Republicans wrote and passed through the House without any input from congressional Democrats.
“Our caucus is unified on a clean April 11 CR that will keep the government open and give Congress time to negotiate bipartisan legislation that can pass," he said. "I hope our Republican colleagues will join us to avoid a shutdown on Friday."On the one hand, not passing this CR will shut down the government. On the other hand, passing the CR will give Republicans a free hand to shut down the government when and how they decide so either way the government gets shut down.
Let's see if the Democrats actually have the balls to stop Mad King Donald.

That's what MAGA wants. At least until it happens. I suspect most will begin to understand "be careful what you wish for, you might get it".
NYT is reporting the Dems oppose. Without some compromise by MAGA, they won't get the necessary Dem votes to pass it.

I don't know. This seems suicidal to me. The dems will rightly be accused of shutting down the government, which would make the ongoing decimation even worse, and might even result in a faster dissolution of government than is already happening and will likely be cheered by Musk and other like minded nihilists.

First, Republicans control the House, Senate and the WH. It's not the Democrats fault Republicans refused to negotiate with them and have crafted a spending bill that they cannot pass without Democratic votes. Second, who the hell cares? Most Americans blame the president for shut downs. And even if they blame Democrats today, they'll forget who's to blame in a matter of weeks. Third, Elmo and King Donald are going to dissolve the federal government anyway. Why should Democrats be complicit? So, in the end, either the Democrats help Republicans destroy the federal government with this vote or they don't. I say don't.

Me: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said this afternoon that Democrats would reject a government funding bill...
Looks like Democrats don't have the balls.
It seems that Schumer's plan is to support cloture to get a vote on a 30-day "clean" CR. Of course the "clean" CR won't pass but will enable Democrats to say they tried, they tried, they really tried. But his deal to get a vote on the dead in the water 30-day "clean" CR means giving up the right to filibuster the GOP's "dirty" CR. And once that happens, it will pass on a majority vote.
Schumer needs to resign his leadership role. He's useless.

I saw this over at BlueSky and it sums things up succinctly.
Senate Democrats,
At the end of today, you're either going to own the shutdown or you're going own Trump's agenda of chaos and destruction.
Choose wisely.

At the end of today, you're either going to own the shutdown or you're going own Trump's agenda of chaos and destruction. It’s actually much simpler than this. It’s all about math and Republican lies.
From the link below:
Republicans say medicaid cuts are off the table, but the Congressional Budget Office says the budget they're proposing doesn't work without them. The Democrats must stand up to defend middle class Americans against cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. Unless it is spelled out in the CR Bill that there are no cuts to these programs, then no Democrat votes. Period.
Republicans promises are worthless.
Republicans want tax cuts for multi-billionaires and they will cut Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security to fund them.

However ideologically and morally in the right the democrats are here, they've lost this issue. Their ability to put out a coherent message frankly sucks. If there's a shutdown, the democrats will be blamed.

Why would Democrats vote for a budget they had no part in crafting, which contains nothing that they want, and that the opposition party has done everything possible to make as repugnant to Democratic voters as possible?
Seriously, it’s like Republicans have not progressed past being a 2 year old throwing tantrums at every turn. Once you get to be an adult you learn that compromise is not a bad word, and in fact is the way the world eventually works once your stamped your feet to no effect.
