I was surprised by NYC. I always heard bad things (crowded, pushing/shoving, stepping over dead bodies, etc). None of that was true. We wandered all over Manhattan, sometimes at night, no issues of any kind. This was several years ago (maybe 5?). Central Park was really nice (didn't do that at night). Subway was fine. No significant smog. No issues at all.
