Usually all the news people are lamenting these days - I either laugh at or don't care enough to know about.
But this sucks - Billy Joel not well.

We just saw Tom Jones earlier this week. He's 85 (in June). Didn't move around much, but his voice was still there. A far cry from the half-unbuttoned shirt and tight leather pants, but it was fun.
Half the Beatles are gone. Only one BeeGee left. One of the singers from Earth, Wind, and Fire died several years ago (not too long after we get an autographed CD). Linda Ronstadt has a neurological disease that is paralyzing her vocal chords (so, she quit several years ago).
I can appreciate some of the young talent (and respect for those who write their own stuff, play their instruments, AND sing), but they just aren't my scene.

We saw him perform his Mark Twain one man show a good 10 or 15 years ago in the Laguna Playhouse.
Before the show began he walked around the playhouse greeting early arrivals seated in the little theater. When he came up into the balcony and greeted my wife (who was enamored of his DocHoliday swagger, and his TopGun volleyball playing charms for a long time) she was momentarily tongue-tied. I'm sure he dealt with that a lot.
Interesting how celebs deal with the hard realities we all eventually face.

Hell, Kilmer was a better Jim Morrison than Jim Morrison. Sang better, too. Or just as good. I'd never turn down a viewing of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (and the Director's cut with Black, Downey Jr. and Kilmer is pretty damn funny), either.
Come to think of it, if the Academy could pass out awards to Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon, and Cate Blanchett for their admittedly fine performances as real-life folks, Kilmer at least deserved a nomination (certainly more than Beatty in Bugsy, anyway).
Ah, well, no one said life was fair. If it was, Mad King Donald would be rotting in prison now.
And don't get me started on stage 4 cancer...

Funny story, I happened to watch "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" today, starring Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. IIRC Val Kilmer told the writer/director (Shane Black) to tailor the part for Robert Downey Jr as he was struggling with addiction and wanted to get out of its hold. And Kilmer wanted to help.
Kilmer was a good guy. Went to Juilliard.
The movie itself is fantastic, very witty writing. Highly recommended.
