Caught the rerun of last night's TYT programming. Ana ran a piece about the growth of gambling in the US. The piece isn't on YT yet. Gambling in the US has grown, a lot.
I don't recall the exact historical numbers cited in the piece, so here's a graph of how much money USians have bet, per year, from 1929, to 2025.
Gambling Spending (1929-2025)macrotrends.net - Gambling spendingOf the $166B Ana cited as spent on gambling in the last year, $159B was on-line, typically on a "smart phone" app. So easy. So convenient. Grab your phone, and throw your money away.
I have had a creeping suspicion in recent months. Seemed to me there were more baseball games on over the air TV this past summer, than there had been, for years. I wondered if the increased carry of ball games was to promote more sports gambling. Of course, the baseball games vanished as soon as football started. I asked the net sifter how many college football games were carried by the four major networks in 2010, vs this year. According to the sifter, the four networks carried a total of 53 games in 2010. This year, including the Fox and CBS dedicated sports channels, there are 281 college football games broadcast. A friend of mine is a U of M football fan. He commented that U of M does not have anything like a "usual" start time for their games, like they used to. They announce the start time only a few days before the game, because the start time is dictated by when they can get it on TV.
How many people are burning all their savings, and their 401k, on gambling?
We are frelled. There are going to be Millions of financial idiots panhandling, or leeching off their spawn, because they gave all their money to Draft Kings or Fanduel.
