Thanks for posting the question. I've been asking it from the beginning and admit to being in a quandry. I think there is a real possibility these are "volunteers". Brown Shirts. Good ol' boys who want to make a few bucks. Hired hands. But, then again, that would be a pretty easy to expose. The real police (whoever would be relevant: ICE, FBI, US Marshals) would tip their hand. Word would get out.
On the other hand I grew up around cops. Family members. Hung around police stations while they talked shop. By-and-large they don't give fock about the public. Laws and the constitution just get in their way because they already know who's guilty. Give them a chance to wade into somebody's home, business, school, warrant or not, probable cause or not, and bust heads with impunity, about 95% of them would get a hard-on over it. Hopefully, things have moderated since "the old days" but I am always a pessimist.

After auditing what I know of this situation I would like to revise and extend my remarks.
As far as police/ICE agent behavior. There is nothing they can do about staking out a school or a church ect if that's how the order comes down. Commander gets it from On High. Disseminates it to the Captains. Down-channels it to squad leaders. Rank and file get briefed. They have to do it. That's what the originator wants and they are watching for it.
But regarding the brutish behavior. Have these scenes been captured and posted somewhere? Or have the only reports of "brutal thug cops" been from media sources and interviews with victims/victim's families/victim's fellow community members?
Before I go off half cocked, I want my opinions and conclusions on this matter to be at least fair and balanced. Preferably I want to be Dogdamn right!

Yes, our daughter is very upset about this behavior, likening it to the Gestapo. As depicted, it is Gestapo-like. But, as you say, I want a bit more information. If it's an isolated incident amplified by media, then that isn't really systemic. If it's happening everywhere, that's a police state.

Alright. You made me come up there and now....
There is a difference (And I know you know this) between following a lawful order that is not untoward, and fully within the normal purview of the office issuing said order, and mindlessly or even gleefully acting in a way you know is A) wrong and B) not within your scope and rationalizing it on the basis of "Following Orders." Although it does get complicated and more "gray" when you get into threats, coercion, who's got the best information in that environment and other complicating factors. Remember Hamilton: Control of a man's livelihood is control of a man's will.)
The executors in this case have no basis to refuse to pick up someone at a school or church no matter how unseemly it might be even when they know the reason why. They have no reason rough them up. For all I know at the moment the shlubbs doing the dirty work are being briefed that everything is in-accordance-with. If you want to keep something a secret you don't tell everybody. "Need to know basis." They might have had no idea it was such an egregious set-up. That's one reason why I'm thinking they not be real cops but a pick-up team.
