Wow! Was discussing savings, investing & compounding with my youngsters & looked back at astonishing real example of compounding- WEB's net worth:

$3.3B 1990
$10.7B 1995 (age 65)
$117B now ($250B (475K A Shares in 2006) if he had not contributed to the 5 foundations)

Astonishing and yet another reason to yearn to be a frugal nonagenarian! :)

At some point you have won the game and now are just running up the score.

I wonder if WEB will reach that point before he kicks off.

Is life a game?
Whatever it is, there are truths and laws that work, like gravity and aerodynamics. I think Warren is like a surfer, he enjoys the art and beauty of his what he's good at. He's made a lot of friends, why wouldn't he continue doing what he's doing as long as he can do it? He's able to give away a lot of the fruits of his labor, as well, which includes a fair amount of wisdom. If it is a game, he admits he won long ago and plays for the pleasure and to continue to contribute.

I agree that Warren enjoys what he does as a game.

In an interview many years ago, first wife Susie commented that Warren uses money to keep score.

If he was focused on running up the score, he would have kept it all and now be the richest man in the world.

As an aside, how does one view the wealth of kings and dictators who basically own their country's wealth?

How to view kings and dictators? I believe Bob Dylan likely borrowed this insight for his "Sweetheart Like You":

Steal a little and they throw you in jail
Steal a lot and they make you king

Note: In no way am I implying that WEB stole to create his fortune. But then Warren is neither a king nor dictator. It's amazingly kind that he is returning what he made back to society. Considering how deeply wired he is to keeping score with money, it can't be easy for him to have done this ahead of his preferred schedule. But he understands the impact of doing it the way he has chosen to do it.

I wouldn't mind borrowing a billion with the promise of returning the remainder back to society when I'm done here.
