But please recall, it was George W Bush who supported a temporary guest worker program. I was fine with that and still am.

The problem I had was the specifics of how the Bush program would have worked, making the migrants the equivalent of indentured servants. Each person had to have a job lined up, before entry to the US, so the program would only help "JCs" who had the means to have a recruiting office in Mexico. The person was then stuck with that employer, for the duration of his work visa, no batter how badly he was treated. If he left the job that he was allowed in to work, he would be immediately deported.

But the problem the MAGA crowd would have was the people would still be brown.
