The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

For my own mental health, I no longer watch any Trump speeches. I simply can't handle the sound of his voice. So I downloaded a transcript of his acceptance speech and started reading that. Has any one else actually read a transcript of one? We have become so accustomed to hearing this man over and over, that I think we simply tune out what he's actually saying.

You think Biden can't keep a train of thought? Read a Trump transcript. It's just full of half finished sentences, random thoughts, invented conversations. The only difference is in the delivery. Trump keeps on talking through his half sentences and random thoughts, barely taking a breath, while Biden comes to a complete stop between them. But they demonstrate the same problems.

Here's just one little bit:

At the center of our plan for economic relief are mass massive tax
cuts for workers that include something else that stood out to be
very popular actually. Here it's very popular in this building and
all those hotels that I saw that are so nice, I'm staying in a nice
one. It's called no tax on tips. No tax no tax on tips.

I got that by having dinner recently in Nevada where we're leading by
about 14 points. Hello. I'll see you there very soon everybody.

We're having dinner at a beautiful restaurant in the Trump building
on the strip and it's a great building and the waitress comes over,
“How's everything going?” Really nice person. “How's everything?”
“Oh, it’s so tough. The government's after me all the time on tips,
tips, tips.” I said “Well, they give you cash, would they be able to
find it?” She said “Actually,” I didn't know that but she said very
little cash is given. “It’s all put right on the cheque. And they
come in and they take so much of our money. It's just ridiculous and
they don't believe anything we say and they've just hired as you know
88,000 agents to go after ‘em even more.”

And I said, this shows the level of – most people out there hire
consultants they pay millions of dollars. But I said to her, “Let me
just ask you a question. Would you be happy if you had no tax and
tips?” She said, ”What a great idea.” I got my information from a
very smart waitress. That's better than spending billions of dollars.

And everybody, everybody loves waitresses and caddies and drivers and
everybody has a large, large group of people that are being really
hurt badly they make money, let them keep their money.

Don't focus on the policy for a moment, just focus on how the thoughts start and stop and change direction. How the words are strung together into thoughts and ideas.

In the big picture, it's not hard at all to understand what he's trying to communicate. Much like Biden. We easily understand what is being said by either man. But the one that just keeps talking we think is fine and the one who stops and tries to regather his thoughts we call senile.

Are we all really this dumb?
