I am trying to find the historical holdings list for an index ETF. Every search result I have tried gives either the current holdings list or the historical price of the ETF.
The specific index of interest is the Russell 1000 Growth Index. ETFs are IWF or VONG.
Surely this information exists somewhere! Does anybody know where it can be found?
Most indexes reconstitute once a year.

Fidelity Inside ETFs - IWF | Research/ Prospectus/ select Portfolio Holdings this has only one year of holdings by quarters.

I was curious so I wrote to LSE. This is the response.
This data is reserved for subscribers of this index so you will not find this data listed on the internet. Do you have a company email domain so I can look to see if you are a subscriber?

Thanks.
That's .. really weird of LSE. The current index holdings are freely available, so I can't understand why they'd reserve the previous lists.
Oh well. That explains why I couldn't find it.

Depending on the data you are looking for iShares has historical month end holdings on their site.
For IWF you could go to
https://www.ishares.com/us/products/239706/ishares... and click to the holdings section. Above the actual holdings you will see a drop down with options for the past four months.
If you need to go back further than that you will need to tinker a bit. The actual url will be something like this
'... www.ishares.com/us/products/239706/ishares-russell-1000-growth-etf/xxxxxxxxx.ajax?fileType=csv&fileName=IWF_holdings&dataType=fund&asOfDate=20231229 '
but the value xxxxxxxxx is an api key that comes from somewhere and probably related to a cookie on the machine. If you know your browser and can look at the url that the browser calls to retrieve an historical date it is visible there. Copy that url and change the date and you have it. I should point out that the dates are last market day of the month. I've also seen some python libraries that can supposedly retrieve this data but I've never used one.

rayvt,
Please!
It would be of great value if you posted your findings regarding the historical holding for index ETFs in your original post.
Thanks
