Semi-auto assault rifles should be banned...period.What are "semi-auto assault rifles"? There is no set definition because that is a convenient -easy to understand- term to describe military-style weapons. But in terms of law, you'd have to be much more specific. A better approach would be to address it in terms of magazine capacity and cyclic rate.
Note that the Virginia Tech shooting was the largest in US history at that time, and was accomplished with a 9mm pistol. No "assault rifles".
