Trump is predicting 600 billion in increased revenue due to the tariffs over the next 12 months.
Delusional? What's going to happen in 12 months when those revenues fail to materialize?

Well, if tariffs raise $600B and local companies can then raise their prices by say $400B, that means inflation is up $1 trillion which is about 4% of GDP. That should be interesting to see the spin on why Biden caused such big inflation.

Honestly, I'm surprised Trump threw out such a low number. He needs a bigger # than that,
so that he can spin the lie that the tariffs are going to at the very least cover the tax
cuts that he wants to bully thru. The deficit is gonna explode, as the #'s that DOGE is putting out are pulled out of their arse, so $600 Billion is not enough.
Oh well, back to the very best era in American History, the Gilded Age, as Mark Twain called it.
Don't all working class people want to go back to the 1870s-1910s timeframe, life was surely
an Edenic Paradise in America back then, the last time that tariffs reigned supreme #sarcasm
( I'm going to miss clean air, clean water, the post office, the forestry service, fish
and game departments, public education, the FAA and safe air travel, nuclear regulatory agency, etc, etc, etc )

This tariff bs, combined with Musk’s slash and burning of the federal government, is an unsubtle attempt to justify $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the rich. They can project $600 billion in tariff revenue plus hundreds of billions in annual reductions in federal spending, and claim the tax cuts are paid for.
Meanwhile, the tax burden will be shifted through tariffs onto working class consumers, while cuts to social programs will further burden the working class and the poor.
Ultimately these policies will wreck the economy, exacerbate income and wealth inequality, and likely lead to war.
This lunacy needs to be stopped.

Speaking of loons, I passed a minivan with a "MAGAMAMA" license plate, a rear window festooned with Trump slogans, and an almost live size image of Trump on a pulled down sun shade on the back seat window. Yes, I live in a mostly MAGA town. ☹️

I live in Trump country as well- rural Michigan, just north of the Ohio line. The precinct I live in went over 60% for Trump in the last election.
But the Trump signs in the neighborhood are all gone. They’re primarily corn and soybean farmers getting screwed by Trump.
Here in Michigan, the inroads Trump made in the last election are beginning to crack.
Those Dearborn voters who went for Trump because of their disagreement with Biden about Gaza? They’re not feeling the love anymore as Trump wants to ethnically clense Gaza and turn it int a Trump resort.
The autoworkers are about to get crushed as that integrated CANADA/USA/MEXICO car manufacturing becomes dis-integrated and parts used in manufacturing cross the border one, two, three times with a tariff slapped on each time they cross the border, while Trump warns Detroit not to increase the price of their cars.
Canadian tourists?? Bye bye.
And the farmers who live around me suffering through the cancellation of USAID contracts to feed hungry children?
There are going to be several protests held around Michigan on April 5th. (Nationwide as well) My wife and I will be attending the one held in the reddest area of SE Michigan- in Adrian, the county seat of Lenawee County.
Trump Country.
Will be interesting to see who shows up.

They can project $600 billion in tariff revenue
I wonder if they’ve factored in the reduced consumption that comes with a recession? And the fact the the spending which remains tends to be on consumer staples like food and soap, most of which isn’t imported in the first place.
Projections are fun. They’re especially useful if somebody goes back in time and seeing if they came true, which hardly anyone ever does.

"Trump is predicting 600 billion in increased revenue due to the tariffs over the next 12 months.
Of course, this tariff revenue will predominantly be taken from low income and middle class families, who are already struggling to make ends meet.
And to rub salt into the wound, the tariff revenue generated will then predominantly be given to multi millionaires and billionaires in the form of tax breaks.
This will result in inflation and a recession, or perhaps worse.
One doesn’t need a crystal ball to see that Republican behavior will result in an outcome will be bad for the majority of Americans. Once again.
Consequences.

This seems to get absolutely no air time. The tariffs are a highly regressive tax. It is a new tax, and it is on the poor and middle class. This needs to be made very clear.

Tariffs are a substitute for a federal sales tax (a tax on imported goods). Regressive for sure, but almost all consumption taxes are and they are very common elsewhere in the world.
