So America is spending about 3% on defense, of which we might say 1% is allocated to the Atlantic and Europe, 1% to the Pacific and Asia, and 1% to the Middle East and Indian Ocean. How does that compare to the 2% and more that all European countries have committed spend, and most of them are spending that much or more? The Europeans initially agreed to spend 2% in response to Trump's bullying. Now they are actually doing it because they realize that they can't rely on America.
We live in a different world than the one outlined in the NATO charter. We live in a globally integrated economy with complex, convoluted supply chains.
Do you think you can just defend the North Atlantic? Or do you think your lines of defense are a little more complicated than that?
European nations suck because they don't realize that. They're willing to do nothing in places like Iran and the Gulf because they've allowed their capabilities to wither on the vine. That's all on them, not Trump. The only people doing any lifting to protect the open flow of energy are us, the Gulf States and the Israelis.
Where's Europe? The dirty secret is that that they don't have the capability to help us in many meaningful ways. And rather broadcast the obvious they're choosing to score political points.
I can't have anything other than contempt for their stance. Them and Canada for what they're doing.
Trump (and the United States) are attempting to lock up said supply chains by cleaning up the Western Hemisphere.
