The following hit the wire today. It is a massive mess. China is exporting nearly as much to the US. China has turned to the rest of the world with deflationary profitless production of goods. The world has massive deflation minus the US with the tariff war. We shall follow.

We cannot escape this internally or externally.

I would have to quote too many paragraphs to make points. Please read the article. One paragraph alone does not make much of a point.

China's Labor Market Distress Spreads at Worst Time for a Deflation Fight

The Bloomberg article is behind a paywall; the headline says it all.

China is NOT exporting nearly as much to the US.

This sentence got mangled at first. I am not a writer. Stick the word NOT in there.

There are indeed some strange side effects.

For example, the high US tariffs on some things mean China gets more money selling to other countries at really low prices. Lossmaking, but LESS lossmaking. So those countries in turn have to introduce big tariffs to keep their own industries from completely folding. Steel in Canada, for example.

So tariffs are spreading faster than a celebrity post on facebook, even though the participants are not trying to have a trade war.
