Here’s a rough draft of the cartoon pulled by WaPo before publication.

https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/f_auto,q_auto:...

The cartoonist, Pulitzer prizewinner Ann Telnaes, resigned.

Hopefully she doesn't get HEBDO'D - the Sheeple Scouts did that over a cartoon.

Mind you it was Europe - nothing to really be mourning.

On another note, WaPo is BACK!

Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post, Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman, the CEO of AI, and Patrick Soon-Shiong, the publisher of LA Times.…..and of course, Mickey Mouse as a stand-in for Disney.

She might have added Apple’s Tim Cook.

Ann Telnaes wrote yesterday:

word.

“As an editorial cartoonist, my job is to hold powerful people and institutions accountable……For the first time, my editor prevented me from doing that critical job. So I have decided to leave the Post. I doubt my decision will cause much of a stir and that it will be dismissed because I’m just a cartoonist. But I will not stop holding truth to power through my cartooning, because as they [used to] say, ‘Democracy dies in darkness.’

It’s important to note that the damage here is not in the muting of this single editorial cartoon. It is in the tendency of other “dissenters” not to write or publish things which will be censored - so “censorship” becomes unnecessary because creators don’t offer their opinions in the first place.

Which leads to uni-think, a place where dissent is irrelevant, non-existent even, and where ideas (including democracy) go to die.

And certainly people were free to surmise that Covid was from a lab in China.

Or question vaccines and masks.

OR just say "hey,. I dont believe in gay marriage"

And their social media wouldn't be banned, or this chicken fast food joint wouldn't be boycotted.

Uni Think?

Stalinist Liberals perfected it.

As someone who loves seeing your "rule of law" and "constitution" go by the wayside, I applaud BOTH sides if they seek to curtail speech.

"Both sides do it" - is the battle cry of the TMF Gutless Wonder.

Darn right! I'm in.

PSSSSST: 401K'ers - when your "Democracy" does slip away just think. Your BEST choice is MAGA vs Corporate Dems. (The latter are your soulmates, I know----but just think, that's the best you can now aspire to......you're mine now. )

I gotta admit that I didn’t recognize anyone except the long tie and Mickey Mouse. (After reading posts, I recognize Bezos, but not the others.)

And I wonder what’s up with Mickey. Is he dead or prostrating himself?

But the gist of the cartoon certainly comes across. If I were the editor offering critique, it would be to clarify those points.

Pulling the cartoon is a clear demonstration of the problem we are facing as a country. Good for Talneas for resigning. I hope she finishes it up and publishes it somewhere.

And it’s even DOUBLY HILARIOUS to see people who’ve never said a word about Big Tech censoring conservative viewpoints complain about a cartoon. Why was it even pulled, other than it doesn’t make any sense?

Yeah, these next four years are going to be a hoot. They’re going to make up all kinds of reasons to lose their minds and accuse Trump of stealing anything not nailed down. They’ll clutch their pearls and try to grab some kind of moral high ground…after years of watching the Biden crime family and their media accomplices lie and get away with it.

Grab some popcorn. It’s also clear they’re pretty much done talking to anyone not in their bubble, which is also hilarious - they can’t handle the presence of 4-5 right wingers. How weak is that?

And certainly people were free to…

Of course people are free to do those things. Others are just as free to criticize.

You just don’t get it, do you?Criticism of ideas and free speech is not the same as banning ideas and speech.

When someone says that masks don’t do anything, others are perfectly free to dispute that statement. And when bringing sufficient evidence, they can even call it a lie.

Last time I checked the only people banning things are Republicans trying to ban the idea of same gender intimate relationships or the fact that slavery was brutal, dehumanizing, and part of our country’s history.

Disney owns ABc News which bent the knee to Donald to stop having headaches.

I swear, half of being a leftist is a selective memory (the other half being blind faith in the Church of Progressivism). Let’s remind everyone:

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/12/16/media/george-st...

Last week, with a trial date on the books for April, the judge said that ABC must hand over any remaining documents to Trump’s legal team right away. She also ordered both Stephanopoulos and Trump to be deposed in the coming days. The settlement means that won’t happen.

Heh. They settled because they were about to be moon pounded in court and they sure as sh1t didn’t want any more discovery going on.

All that is at odds with the cartoon and the hyperventilating board lefties are engaging in. The latter is, as always, par for the course.

But for the right wingers here, they let FOX 'news' and all the other (even worse) right propaganda media do their thinking for them. So much easier.

I vaguely remember a quote from a political cartoonist many years ago. He said it was his job to go in after something happens and shoot all the survivors (metaphorically). I've always remembered that. Talneas put it more politely (truth to power), but it amounts to the same thing.

WaPo is a shadow of its former self. No courage, and a corporate agenda.
