As DeSantis pulls anti-immigrant stunts, his wealthy 'farmer' supporters in the Ag industry are urging migrant labor to stay and work for them.
On Monday morning, GOP Florida State Representatives Alina Garcia, Rick Roth and Juan Fernandez Barquin spoke at an event in Hialeah, Florida, about the impending implications of SB 1718. At one point, Roth, as captured in a video shared by political activist Thomas Kennedy, said that the bill is meant "to scare" immigrants and urged those in attendance to convince their immigrant acquaintances to stay."I'm a farmer and the farmers are mad as hell..we are losing employees...they are already starting to move to Georgia and other states...It's urgent that you talk to all your people
Gotta love how he offers reach-arounds to DeSantis and Trump at the end of his schpiel.

Plus, Texas wants to charge DeSantis:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/...The sheriff of Bexar County, Texas is recommending criminal charges against those involved with flights that sent 49 mostly Venezuelan migrants from El Paso to Martha's Vineyard last year, what was widely derided as a political stunt orchestrated by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. They probably won't do it (i.e. I'll believe it when I see it), but DeSantis is just committing one wrong step after another lately. I thought he was a shoe-in for the Rep nomination, and a serious threat to Biden. Now I'm not so sure.

To be fair, they aren't specifying DeSantis for charges. It is "those involved", which (to me) would include DeSantis. And they at least imply he could be in the crosshairs.

Bexar County is just over 500 miles from El Paso so how does a Sheriff from that far away have any standing in this issue. Is he upset because he wanted all those illegals to be sent to San Antonio instead? Is Ron DeSantis poaching illegals that rightly belong to Texas? Closer to home, he should be more upset with Governor Abbott for sending illegals to NYC and Chicago.

Who knows? Maybe it's the same thing they tried to pull with Rick Perry a few years ago. You can indict anybody for anything in some parts of Texas.

I think he has standing because FL paid to fly migrants from his county. As I understand it. So the migrants were under his jurisdiction, and he is alleging they were -in effect- kidnapped.
That's my hand-wavy understanding of the legal situation (IANAL).

Bexar County (where San Antonio is) is 500 miles from El Paso. I know counties in Texas are big but not that big. There are at least eight counties in between Bexar County and El Paso County.

Then maybe he doesn't have standing. Unless they were flown out of a San Antonio airport? Though El Paso has its own airport, so I don't see why that would have been necessary.
I'm sure the sheriff has access to lawyers who would tell him if he can't do something. Or perhaps he hasn't spoken to them.

DeSantis paid to remove Venezuelan asylum seekers outside the Migrant Resource Center in San Antonio and ship them on private planes to Massachusetts. The flights originated at the San Antonio airport.

Trump is a masterful con artist. He knows how to pander with lies and maintain deniability. He's absolutely amoral.
DeSantis is trying to go toe to toe with a true sociopath and he just doesn't the mental acuity and speed to riff word salad; the ability to razzzle dazzzle a gullible audience that Trump has.

There are at least eight counties in between Bexar County and El Paso County.Mike, the potentially illegal actions occurred in Bexar County where the immigrants were solicited and lied to.
"According to a lawsuit filed by a law firm representing some of the migrants, Perla Huerta, a former combat medic and counterintelligence agent in the U.S. Army, gave $10 McDonald's gift cards to about 50 migrants in San Antonio last year in exchange for a signed consent form to board a flight to Massachusetts. Inside the charter plane, the migrants, many of whom were Venezuelans, were given a brochure with a list of organizations that provide social services the migrants were
not eligible for, according to the lawsuit."
