Judge Aileen Cannon on Friday set Donald Trump's classified documents trial to start on May 20, 2024.
Special counsel Jack Smith had pushed for a December start date. Trump wanted to push off the trial through the 2024 election, in which a Republican victory could make any federal charges against Trump disappear.Reasonable date. Defense cannot complain it's insufficient time and if there's a delay or two, the trial will still be completed well before election day in November.
On to the next indictment.

Faith in institutions erode another percent or two.
Great plan for the coming months.

Oh, and the trial date is 100% politically motivated. By May most of the primaries are done and if he wins, Trump will be campaigning from Mar-a-Lago's basement.
Which is what the left wants.

Uhh...no.
Judge Aileen Cannon was appointed by Trump, and is a Republican. Any notion that she is part of "the left" is absurd. In fact, the left is concerned that this judge could manipulate the trial to see to it that Trump skates. I don't know enough about her to reach that conclusion, but in the past I believe she issued at least one ruling that favored Trump.
If it was "100% politically motivated", then it's almost certainly a favor to Trump. Not saying it was politically motivated. But if it was, it was in favor of Trump given the leanings of that particular court.

but in the past I believe she issued at least one ruling that favored Trump.</i?
She most certainly did. After the FBI searched for and retrieved the documents that Trump had continued to hide and deny that he had,
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/read-the-judge....
"In a legal victory for former President Donald Trump, a federal judge on Monday granted his request for a special master to review documents seized by the FBI from his Florida home and also temporarily halted the Justice Department's own use of the records for investigative purposes.
The decision by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon authorizes an outside expert to review the records taken during the Aug. 8 search and to weed out from the rest of the investigation any that might be protected by claims of attorney-client privilege or executive privilege. Some of those records may ultimately be returned to Trump, but the judge put off a ruling on that question.....
The order came despite the strenuous objections of the Justice Department, which said an outside legal expert was not necessary in part because officials had already completed their review of potentially privileged documents.
The appointment appears likely to slow the pace of the department's investigation into the presence of top-secret information at Mar-a-Lago, particularly given the judge's directive that the Justice Department may not for the moment use any of the seized materials as part of its investigation into the storage of government secrets at the Florida property."

Is this Krazy Stupid Nonsense Day?
Cannon, a lifelong republican, was nominated by former president Trump to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and received her commission on November 13, 2020, about two months before Trump left office.
On August 22, 2022, in Trump v. United States, Trump asked for and was granted a special master to review materials seized during the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago and Cannon ordered the Justice Department to stop using the seized material in its investigation until the special master's review is complete or until a further court order.
Cannon sided with Trump.
The Justice Department appealed to Cannon to allow their investigation into seized classified-marked documents to continue, and to exempt such documents from the special master's review,
Cannon again sided with Trump.
The Eleventh Circuit stayed portions of Cannon's ruling.
Cannon then overruled procedures proposed by the special master she appointed.
Cannon agreed with Trump's legal team on multiple issues, and set procedures including extending the deadline for the review.
The Eleventh Circuit stepped in again to rule against Cannon.
Long story short, Cannon repeatedly sided with Trump and was repeatedly overturned by the Eleventh Circuit on appeal.
And while the May date is set, the New York trial date set for March of 2024 should be postponed and the more serious federal case should go first.

It obviously tickles your pleasure points to see Joe Biden as a criminal, and one who belongs behind bars. So go ahead....gloat and enjoy....until you just can't deny reality any longer.
Although.....I may be overly optimistic. Donald Trump, who truly IS a criminal and belongs behind bars, and at the very least should be forbidden to run for president of our country, is someone you continue to trust and respect. You believe the lies and smugly protest the truth.
So let's see what happens.

You should instead be worrying about dementia Biden and his drug addict son, Hunter.
Both are crooks of the lowest kind. The truth of the lowlife Biden's is being uncovered daily.

I don't care about Hunter. I don't wish him ill, but it's none of my business. As long as daddy isn't covering for him, he's a big boy that has no position in government. So I don't care. He's already been prosecuted once, and if he deserves it he may be in the future.
Just as I don't care about Tiffany. She stayed out of the Trump administration, and did her own thing (whatever that was). So I don't care. Same with Baron.
Biden wouldn't be my first choice in 2024. It may be age-ist of me, but I think he's too old. Of course, Trump also is too old and he has several disqualifying traits (to me) independent of his politics. Given that choice, I'll take Biden. At least he is relatively sane, and not malignant. And seems to be trying to do a good job, even if I don't agree with him on everything (I don't agree with anyone on everything, so no surprise there).

I am starting to like that Vivek Ramaswamy guy. He reminds me a lot of the dem candidate last time Andrew Yang. They both are sucessful businessmen and Washington outsiders. The both have an analytical pragmatic approach to addressing our nations problems and ideas they could articulate without bashing the other side. Too bad neither of them has a chance given the present two party system. Vivek is presently polling 9% and gaining while Desantis keeps falling.

The amount of brainwashing that has taken place by the various board authors here is incredible. You have been caught and played like a fiddle and responding exactly how the military PR wants.
Donald Trump was an awful US president. But do you realise that he is awful for reasons other than what you are discussing, and that every US president, past and present, and including the recent ones such as Obama, have all been equally as dreadful also?
I'm sorry to report that you are lied to each day, from the top down. It starts with the official statements by the military spokespeople, the media obey, and Britain picks up the narratives and exaggerates it 3-fold which we then read as more legitimate. And everyone follows the party line and belief system inadvertently. China is an enemy that has to be stopped, Russia wants to invade Europe.
The myopic focus on on this board with magazine gazette topics related to our presidents is pretty ridiculous. Do you realise that you are being brainwashed to concentrate on petty subjects as who some US president is sleeping with or had oral sex with, or twitter statements by Trump, so as to ignore the far, far, far, far more significant crimes? There far more significant crimes that they are committing are not even discussed, and ^never were^ discussed. Including right now. But firstly let's go back..
If the Nuremberg laws were applied, then every post-war American president would have been hanged. Truman was horrific. Are you guys aware that we bombed North Korea to smithereens and once the military targets were destroyed, we had more bombs so why not use them and we bombed all the dams. Luckily for the North Koreans, Russia and China responded with humanitarian aid yet the population was devastated with mass starvation. North Korean grandparents there today could, as recent as a few years ago, still hear our B52 doing needless laps around North Korea whilst having their own living memory of the awful bombings we did in the 1950s. And we run smear campaign propaganda to make the place look crazy, but you realise the place is isolated because of our ludicrous sanctions and political suffocations threatening anyone who cooperates with them - there than it being their own international policy to want to be isolated, as our narrative feeds us. Good on their leadership for standing up for their public. Move onto Eisenhower - starting with overthrowing of the government of Guatemala, then a capitalist democracy. The overthrow of their government alone is a major crime with the CIA-backed army, and then bombing the place after, plus the invasion of Lebanon in 1958 with a lot of people were killed, plus the overthrow of the government of Iran through another CIA-backed coup. But Guatemala alone is enough for Eisenhower to be hanged by the standard of the Nuremberg laws. For Kennedy, the invasion of Cuba was outright aggression, followed by a huge terrorist campaign against Cuba - bombardment of industrial installations with killing of many, bombing hotels, sinking fishing boats. Then under Nixon, poisoning livestock in Cuba, invaded South Vietnam in 1962, sent our Air Force to start bombing there. Johnson would be hanged for the Indochina war alone, not even mentioning the invasion of the Dominican Republic, another a major war crime. Nixon invaded Cambodia, bombing in the early 1970s was along the same lines as the Khmer Rouge atrocities. Returning to the next present - Ford was only around as president for a very short time but still long enough to be hanged for supporting the Indonesian invasion of East Timor, which makes Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait look trivially small. Reagan supported the Israeli invasion of Lebanon that also makes Saddam Hussein look tame. Bush is so obvious we don't need to go on. Obama was one of the most horrific criminals. He embraced the US drone programme overseeing more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency. A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama's two terms, compared to 57 strikes under Bush. Between 384 and 807 civilians were killed in those countries. Trump pulled out of important peace treaties and made the world exceedingly more dangerous. The Trump administration has waged an assault on international law unparalleled in the post-war era. It has embraced what has sometimes been called the "new sovereigntist" critique of international law. Trump withdrew from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and it was hardly discussed in our media but about the most deadly thing any US president could do - we will see the direct results later. Biden supported the war in Serbia, Syria, Libya, but was always super-aggressive towards Russia. Whilst in power in pushed NATO further into Ukraine, doing all he could to provoke a conflict given the clear and repeated warnings from the Russian administration that it was a red line, a message that started in the early 1990s when Gorbachev was promised that NATO would not move at all to the East from Germany, and of course Ukraine would be a neutral territory. So straight away NATO immediately started expanding to the east. The UN reported 14,000 Ukrainian deaths from terrorist using NATO weaponry after the 2014 coup in Kiev, with Ukraine absolutely not sovereign from 2014 until the present, but following our mandates. Our diplomats were caught on recorded tape selecting the right Ukraine leader - Yanukovych who by contras was the legitimate president 2010-2014, but too independent and so putting the people of Ukraine first, trading with both Russia and Europe - that is absolutely unacceptable so we got rid of him in 2014 with a sponsored violent overthrow.
You are being lied to - horrifically - and reading this board, I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. If you discussions of who Trump is raping has any importance then you are successfully brainwashed. Sure, he is is dreadful, but the problem isn't what the press is controlling you to discuss, but the things that the press isn't discussing.
In summary is almost no distinction between the main candidates as far as the significant crimes are concerned. If a peaceful president threatens to come, the smear PR tactics are hysterically launched and you will discuss on this board these hysterics, and he'll be out in no time. And another horrific criminal will be in, with crimes not discussed on CNN, read on Bloomberg or the New York Times, the really huge crimes that you guys will again be oblivious to.

Well, someone's a Noam Chomsky fan. But gee, you left off Dengue Fever in Cuba.
We could discuss for days whether or not the United States made verbal promises or tricked the Soviets on NATO expansion, and there's plenty of evidence on both sides of the issue to keep the discussion hot and heavy for quite some time but there is one inescapable fact: there never was a written agreement.
Nitpicking here, but why mention the expansion of drone strikes by Obama over Bush (side note: Obama, started publishing drone strike casualties in about 2015, a policy which Trump ended under his administration) and leave off that Trump escalated drone strikes by several times the accelerated rate of Obama? Just curious.
And also, I don't seem to see much in the way of criticism of Russia -- just the lovely humanitarian efforts of Mother Russia.
You suggest every American president since Truman should face a war crimes tribunal, but not the Russian leader?
Finally, shorter paragraphs and paragraph breaks are your friends.
