When President Caligula of the United States accused Ukraine of having started the war, something inside me broke.
Not that he had not said mad things before but this time he crossed the river of no return.
I am writing this in Helsinki, 300 km from the Russian border.
I am telling all the young men I know to get out of here.
If Caligula´s new best friend Putin sends his troops to my country, Finland, here´s what I do:
I will sit in front of the first tank and ask them to run over me.
I will tell them they must kill me, a babushka, before they kill anyone else.
And I am very close to never forgiving anyone who voted for Caligula as the president of the “free world”.
A friend of mine, a mother of two young men, just texted me she does not know how to live anymore.
But we must. Because we have been here before.
And we babushkas can never give up.

Well, Finland is a member of NATO, so if Putin is so foolish as to invade, he'll have the rest of NATA - America included or not - to deal with. But this would truly be the start of WWIII. The Babushka's, as PO'ed as they rightfully are, need not sacrifice themselves unnecessarily.

Depending on the age of the babushka (“babushka” is a Russian term. Does she live in one of the Russian areas in eastern Finland? Her words suggest so, and shows the support of many Russian speakers who live there- whom Russia would claim that they are invading to protect-the same threadbare excuse they used in Ukraine)….
Anyway, depending on her age, she may well remember, or her parents hammered into her the story of the “Winter War”, Stalin’s 1939 invasion of Finland. It was an all hands on deck affair, in which babushkas undoubtedly played a role back then as well.
