At best this is exploitation of an ally. At worst, this is extortion of an ally. And now this morning news has surfaced that King Donald -- maybe we should start calling him Czar Donald -- wants Ukraine to kill a U.N. resoltion that blames Russia for starting the war.

Ukraine is trying to find a way to forge an agreement with the United States on its valuable natural resources as a way to persuade King Donald to provide additional support for its war effort as well as guarantees against future Russian aggression if a peace deal is struck, but they're not having much success.

The new document provides neither. In particular, President Volodymyr Zelensky had been seeking security guarantees for Ukraine, a condition that was absent in the first draft agreement presented to him last week, prompting him to decline to sign the deal.

The new document states that the revenues will be directed to a fund in which the United States holds 100 percent financial interest, and that Ukraine should contribute to the fund until it reaches $500 billion — the amount Mr. Trump has demanded from the war-torn country in exchange for American aid.

That sum, more than twice Ukraine’s economic output before the war, was not mentioned in the previous version of the deal.

And here we were promised King Donald was going to end the war on hs first day in office.

Good luck to Ukraine is they decide to accept such a lopsided offer from the biggest liar on the planet.

The strategy has been in evidence for at least six years- when Trump made his “perfect call” to Zelensky.

It's extortion. I don't think we can regain the trust and respect we had before. Everyone will see that, with an election, the tide can significantly change for any country that has us as an ally. This is what MAGA voted for. SMH. I don't think we'll get it back after this.

I don't think we can regain the trust and respect we had before.

It takes a long time to earn trust. It only takes a moment to completely lose that trust.

I suspect most of the world looked on in 2016 and though - well, that wasn't very smart. Then 2020 came around and we regained a bit of trust - OK. They fixed their problem.

And now in 2024, we completely blew that tenuous trust out of the water. We have turned away from our position in the world as a trustworthy (albeit imperfect) country and have joined the ranks of the untrustworthy.

All that remains is to see which country - or bloc - will take over that world leadership role. China? EU? India? Africa? Who is capable of gaining the world's trust?
