Mike knew the ship had broken down mid-time, unheard of. The Central Chiip Cluster was unrepairable by him or the ships AI. To slip to his time would take dead reckoning with AI assist. All was not lost but if he got within 10000 years of his time he’d be lucky. It would be a Tutter’s chance and Tutter had died. But he put the AI through it’s paces to take his chance.
He made do and repaired for a year. With AI he had figured work arounds, and he did have some luck. The data of the break showed what time he was. He had powered up the Cenplex 6 days ago. In another month, he’d be ready.
He powered up again and ran diagnostics – smooth. He did notice there were unusual patterns of sublight oscillations hitting the craft, but wasn’t concerned.

HC, the logistics aren't there. I talk with some people who advocate CW and query them at times.
We have all the guns, they say.
How many guns can you retreat with? I respond.
To field an army in a Civil War requires more than wishful thinking. It's supplies and logistics, not mastered by going to the shooting range. I'm not saying you can't have a sagebrush rebellion, I'm saying it's over quickly - some are dead, wounded, imprisoned, and we take all the guns.
We might even have a standoff and let tensions ease. But so far, we have one or two belligerents, and in the case of Jan 6, groups.
I remember reading a paper about how General Lee right sized his supply wagon trains down to 28 from 35 for the foray leading to Gettysburg. Napoleonic strategy. His troops were foraging as they went and some driving herds back to food-denuded Virginia. This caused ammo logistical problems and they had the wrong shot and very little just before Picket’s charge, and even then they overshot because they didn’t use spotters.
So I’d beg to differ. We can talk Civil War all we want. Sagebrush rebellion is possible, but the South anticipated the CW and loaded up on weapons and ammo. Fat chance of a Governor ordering out the National Guard to go fight the US Military.
And remember, the ability to tactically retreat with all your weapons and supplies is an art form.
