The new bridge between Detroit and Windsor is complete. The grand opening was supposed to be today. But, several weeks ago, Trump the Best Negotiator Ever, announced he would make sure the bridge would not open, right after cashing a check from the owners of the other bridge between Detroit and Windsor, who don't want the competition. Even the Governor of Michigan evades media questions about the delay.

The Gordie Howe bridge fiasco presents us with a microcosm of what’s wrong with America.
Not everything that is wrong with America, but certainly the decrepitude that overtakes a country entangled with a corrupt, authoritarian leader.
They thought he would cut the red tape and unleash the engines of unfettered capitalism.
Instead, we got corruption on a scale never before seen in America
Apparently “baksheesh” is now required to grease the wheels….. wheels that increasingly seem to be falling off.
Ask the farmers who live around me, whose fields seem to be planted much more sparsely than last year’s fields.
It’s easy to say “fuck you. You voted for this” to the farmers, EXCEPT that they grow the stuff that we eat. And they do seem to be coming to their own realization that the greedy bastard in charge is playing games with their livelihood for his own enrichment.
So now the Gordie Howe bridge- potentially the greatest conduit of transportation to and from Canada, sits idle…… because the family that owns the rival, falling apart “Ambassador Bridge” paid a bribe to Trump to keep it closed.
Multiply that reality by a thousand, and that’s the picture of America that’s emerging.

The local Detroit news at noon just reported. Apparently there are "outstanding issues", but no-one is saying what. The Mayor of Detroit was interviewed. She doesn't know what the issues are. The news did remind people of Trump's threats, and demands for "compensation", from last February. For the Record, Canada paid the entire cost of the bridge, and, iirc, even paid for the customs plaza, on the US side. But Trump wants MONEY.

Matty Maroun’s family gave Trump a million dollars in backsheesh. Apparently Trump wants to see more than that from the advocates of the Gordie Howe.
MAGA supporters will undoubtedly be confused. Trump has his hand out. He’s held up the opening of the Gordie Howe. But because he has not specifically and publicly asked for a bribe, the problem must be elsewhere.

The local news carried that on the fly interview yesterday. No-one wants to invite Trump's retribution. Pulte used his position to try to find "mortgage fraud" for Trump to prosecute his enemies with. The new "security" nominee used to be at the SEC. Wonder of Trump wants to investigate the financial dealings of all his enemies?
