The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Behold the new buzzwords to distract from Trump's failures - part of subversive propaganda techniques that will justify the tax cut for the rich.

I think it was Glenn Beck who popularized the term during the early years of the Obama administration. I remember his convoluted his convoluted blackboard drills, with that term circled and crazy arrows pointed every whichway to “proove” that the Cloward-Piven idea was a motivating thing among Democrats. I’d never heard of it. Nobody I knew had heard of it, but apparently, this is what we were all doing, according to the right: we were all following the “Cloward Piven strategy”. Before that, we were all supposed to be slaves to Saul Alinsky’s “Rules For Radicals” which I HAD heard of , but except for a few hard left groups, I never saw much of Alinsky’s “rules” being followed…. At least until right wing groups began holding workshops on Alinsky’s “Rules” and then putting his teachings into practice ON THE RIGHT.

And of course, after the right wing bugaboos of Alinsky and Cloward-Piven came “Critical Race Theory”- another theoretical model generated among academics that described the pervasive nature of white privilege and institutional racism. Suddenly, the right wing claimed that “CRT was indoctrinating our children in public schools!” “They’re trying to make our children feel guilty for being white!”

Horseshit.

But they fall for these cockamamie stories every time.

And Dope still drags them out of the closet in order to tell us what we are slavishly following, but actually are not.

The right wing echosphere has stumbled onto a very successful strategy to sway the uninformed and it is this:

Comb through academia and its theories over the last hundred years. It doesn’t matter how obscure the theory. Then- demonize it. And then- tell their base that this is what the left is uniformly doing.

Alinsky
Cloward-Piven
CRT

Those three rallying cries have defined the last 15 years of Republican propaganda.

Somewhere on the extreme left fringe, those rallying cries find an appropriate target.

But the success of Republican propaganda lies in convincing their base that this is what defines the Democratic mainstream.

As I said, this is horseshit.

Meanwhile, we have a convicted felon as president, assisted by a Republican Congress that enables his continuing crimes.

But that’s all ok….. because……… Cloward-Piven!
