Why?
Why not just report what he says. He's an idiot and that is on display every time he talks without a teleprompter.

Probably because that would be too painful a thing to admit to their readers, both in the U.S. and abroad. It would be an embarrassment to admit outright that we have elected a blithering idiot to the highest office in the land.
That said, I would really like to see a NYT and WaPo headline that read "President Trump's Insane Rant About Hydraulics Raises Alarms Among Psychopathologists".

Half the country already knows that, as well as much of the rest of the world. Only MAGA doesn't seem to know it, and they'll never see headlines calling out the Felon because the RW propaganda machine will never publish it.
But they should still do it anyway. As responsible journalists, it is their obligation to publish truth/facts, no matter how embarrassing.
