Very few in the public sphere seem to be communicating any ideas on these REAL underlying problems. Without solving the strategic problems, solving the practical problems will continue to be difficult, expensive and ultimately ineffective for all involved.
But....is there a solution? One that can be implemented within a relevant time frame?
One of my favorite quotes is, "Nothing is too hard, but many things are too fast." Even if it were possible for actions in the U.S. to "solve" the strategic problems, it might take too much time. The practical problems might be too current and too fast to address solely, or even primarily by addressing the strategic problems.
Whatever you may say about Gov. Abbott, his strategy has worked amazingly well. Another favorite quote - "the best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it strictly." So long as mostly the border states had to deal with the practical problems of very large numbers of migrants awaiting resolution of their asylum claims, there was no real political impetus to change the status quo. Now that other areas are being forced to also deal with those practical problems, the political dynamic is starting to shift.
