OK...when did clothing become "gear"? When I was growing up, "gear" was other stuff like backpacks, hatchets, tents, crampons, rope, and other such similar items. Basically, anything that was extra after your clothes. So, even rain or snow gear (jackets, parka). But the basic clothes you're wearing?? That seems to be referred to as "gear" in a lot of advertising.
IMHO, it's just a marketing thing to increase appeal. I'm just not sure what it would do that (i.e. increase appeal). It's a pair of yoga pants, not "gear"...get over it.
