Markel Q4 earnings slide from prior year on higher expenses, combined ratio
Markel (NYSE:MKL) on Thursday posted Q4 earnings that slid from the year-ago quarter as the insurer endured a rise in expenses as well as a higher combined ratio. Also, its net investment gains fell as the fair value of its equity and bond portfolios waned given market volatility.

I've held a pretty sizable position in my port for a lot of years.

What i love about Tom Gaynor et. al is they don't sugarcoat and they shoot their shareholders straight. Reminds me of a pair of other insurance managers that are plainspoken. ;)

Nothing that wont cure itself over time. Management is solid.

Stay the course and sleep well is my .02

I wish there was more action on the MKL board.

It's a terrific company that flies under the radar. Lots of runway ahead.
