God and Savior Trump declares the Federal gas tax suspended.
That fuel tax helps pay for road maintenance. Without it, the rest of the country can experience the sort of third world roadways we have had here in Michigan, for decades, because the (L&Ses) are more interested in giving the "JCs" another tax cut.

I’m betting that gas prices won’t go down because gas station owners will line their pockets with the windfall. And then they’ll increase gas prices when the tax is phased back in.

Of course. "free money from the government" is always popular. That is why Lord Trump delayed the issuance of the covid relief checks, while the forms were modified to put his name on them, then he followed them up with a letter saying words to the effect "I sent you money, aren't I great?" "Fiscal responsibility" is nothing but a talking point by the party out of power. Everyone is in the vote buying business.

The gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. With prices swinging 25 cents a day based on news reports, how could you tell?

Trump the Most Perfect says the price of gas will quickly fall. When it falls, the tax will be reimposed. Of course, he has been saying the the end of the war and plunging prices for oil and gasoline, are imminent, ever since he started his war.
