The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Excellent advice but no mention of any other alternative that may exist for graduating seniors.

I've read at least one article lately blaming this on requirements for hiring. We need companies to seriously look to see if a college degree is required for the job. The job below mine in the gov did not require a college degree, just 2 years of college. So some people started with a job that didn't require high school, then studied and got a GED to move up. Then would get 2 years of local jr college to move up to the job below mine. My job required a college degree, but we all learned with government supplied classes. The best boss I ever had got a Poli Sci degree, he was just smart and quick. One of those "flash thinkers" as I call them,I'm more deliberate in my thinking. So you could start in the org and move around, finding your self a good niche. I had no desire to move up, there was absolutely too much politics in the organization, so you had to be good at that and I wasn't. My one saving grace was that I was good at what I did. You had to toot your horn to move up. I reluctantly did that, but it didn't come naturally.
