Your math doesn't work. Raising taxes a couple of points on Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos isn't going to raise nearly enough money.
I didn't say just on Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. I said going back to the pre-2001 tax regime, which would undo the Bush and Trump tax cuts - which disproportionately benefited not merely the Musks and Bezoses (Bezi?) of the world, but the top 20% in general. You could get nearly all the money you need to right the ship and keep it an 80/20 issue.
Things are popular until they're not. What makes something unpopular is how hard it hits home. Defund the Police was popular among the liberal elite until the consequences of the policy hit home with them.
Defund the Police was never popular among the electorate. Social Security and Medicare are.
Remember - the analysis you're trying to make applies equally to tax cuts. Tax cuts are popular, until they're not - until it hits home what you have to give up in order to have those tax cuts.
Tax cuts are popular. Social Security and Medicare are popular. Which of those will lose popularity first? I'd bet on tax cuts being tossed overboard before Medicare and Social Security are....
